lechon

pinoy celebrations are never complete without this old favorite.

my ode to lechon

over roaring embers
through a bamboo stick
prepared by deft hands
watched by hungry eyes

the nose excited
by the smell of roasting
mouths watering
with anticipation

its crispy skin
leads you to ecstacy
the tasty flesh
is a guilty pleasure

the star of countless fiestas
the joy of countless generations
the lechon

bridging the gap

A bridge lies before me
And after it, the sea
I ponder if I should cross it
To leave all the misery

a time for reflection

at the end of the day
and the end of our days
we reflect,
our comings
and our goings,
of the boats
and of our lives,
of the places
and destinations

and to ourselves we ask
where are we now?
has it all been worth it?
who have we become?
